Brian - This one is for you my friend. I know you say that it's about my personal journey, and I agree with that, but the events of this week are to magnify the positive impact you have had in my life and others just like me. You inspire me and so many others!! LIVESTRONG!!
About 4 years ago, I first met Brian at the Lifetime Fitness cycle class. Stacy and I had just joined the gym as Windward Athletic Club shut it's doors..and that's the best thing that every happened to us. I thought the cycle instructor (Brian) was a super intense guy. He made mention that he was a triathlete and I thought that was sort of cool. As I got to know Brian on a personal level, I learned that he was an Ironman and I knew that I had to do it. Over the past 4 years as I continued to develop a friendship with Brian and others within our LTF Alpharetta group, it was clear to Stacy and I that this group was special. We continue to push each other on personal and fitness levels and I can't say enough about this amazing group.
As my training has come to an end, I think it's natural for all endurance competitors to stop and reflect on the training for the year. My personal journey started back in February. It's hard to imagine that I have had focused training for 9 months. When I first signed up with Coach Gerry, I was walk/running to keep my heart rate under 140. This kept my pace at an average of around 11:30/min miles. What a difference 9 months makes.
My hope is that each of you will enjoy following me this week and share in my personal journey thru my Ironman week.
You will be an Ironman this weekend. To know that you will be racing in Ironman while e chemo is flowing through my body makes me feel great! We had some amazing training together. I will never forget it and I loved every mile! LiveStrong and know we are all with you the whole way!!
